Chandigarh: Chandigarh Airport is being upgraded as an International airport and the first flight for Dubai will take off by July end. Chandigarh International Airport will replace the old domestic Chandigarh Airport and will be the region’s second international airport after the Raja Sansi International Airport in Amristar. Sunil Dutt, Director of Chandigarh Airport said that the international airport is extended on 306 acres of land in Jheorehri village, near Mohali, and its construction work is going on.

He said that the new ultra modern building will be armed with all amenities of international standards and it would be all air-conditioned, fitted with escalators and special facilities for physically challenged persons. The area of the new building will be five times more than the previous one and it can accommodate around 400 passengers.

It is believed that the new airport will boost up the region’s economy and enable travel for a plethora of NRIs and international passengers from the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
 
Sunil  Dutt said that Fly Dubai has got approval from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to operate a daily flight to Dubai from Chandiagrh and the first international flight to Dubai will fly from Chandigarh in the last week of July and the ticket rate will be around Rs. 3500 to 3600.

Atul Sareen, managing director of Sky Airways said that there is a big rush of air passengers who want to travel to Dubai from Chandigarh and this flight will be of great help to them and will elicit good response from the air travelers.
