Assam that has over 1,000 lush green tea gardens will be turned into a hotspot for tea tourism as the government is taking various steps to take tea tourism to great heights. The state’s commerce and industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi recently informed that Assam has more than 20 airstrips, many tea bungalows and about 25 golf courses to attract tea tourists.

“In the last three to four years the government in Assam has become more active in promoting the place as a tea tourism hub. More than 354 tea estates are registered in Assam, according to a recent report,” Jiban Gam, assistant tourist information officer, Assam Tourism, informed.
In order to woo more number of tea tourists, the government is organizing package tours through Assam Tourism Development Corporation and direct tour operators. Heritage North East, the company that conducts tea tours, holiday packages in Assam recently launched 2 new tea bungalows that are set to become operational from July 1st. These bungalows mainly aiming to tap the business travelers date back to the times of the British Raj. The company that already owns 3 regal bungalows in Jorhat also conducts Wildlife tours.
