According to a joint study carried out by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and Yes Bank, India’s travel and tourism sector is likely to hire over 40 lakh people as the industry may attract capital investments worth $94.5 billion by 2019. The tourism industry that currently employs less than 4 lakh people had attracted capital investments of $5.3 billion in the year 2008-2009.
The study further forecasts that the travel and tourism sectors are expected to grow at more than 8 per cent per annum between 2011-19. Both the sectors would finally transform not only the urban India, but also rural parts of the country thus promoting agri tourism that mainly involves agri museums, agriculture related festivals and fairs.
The Indian travel and tourism industry which is growing at a very rapid pace is expected to be the second largest employer in the world hiring over 40,037,000 by 2019. With world famous tourism spots like Taj Mahal, Corbett National Park , Himalayas, Khajurao Temples, Ajanta & Ellora Caves among others, India is bound to acquire a third place in the world in terms of attracting tourists.
