The 14th century Kondaveedu Fort near Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh has now got itself an ancient Buddhist stupa that was unearthed below a Shiva temple. According to K P Rao, professor of archaeology, University of Hyderabad, the stupa could be between 1,800 and 2,000 years old. "We require further studies to confirm the date of existence. It would take some time," he added.
Kondaveedu Fort that is 25 kms away from Guntur district is located on a hilltop and has 21 structures. The historical place also has many temples, residential structures, pillared halls and the entrance gate ways. The Gopinatha Temple and Kathulabave at the foothill are other major attractions of Kondaveedu.
