In order to ensure safety and security of tourists across Tamil Nadu, the state tourism department has now formed ‘Tourist Security Organization’, a specialized agency which will work jointly with the Tamil Nadu police department.
Initially, the organization will be put up in 5 popular tourism spots like Mamallapuram, Uthagamandalam, Kodaikanal, Rameswaram and KanyaKumari. Based on the responses and feedback from travelers, the new initiative will be extended to other places of interest. Each tourist centre will have 1 security officer and 5 tourist security personnel. The state government has already sanctioned posts for 25 tourist security personnel and a chief tourist security officer to head the force. The organization besides offering security would also provide guidance to travellers visiting the state, give necessary details and help them out in case of emergencies.
Mr Iraianbu, Secretary Tourism Department, said: “The Tourist Security Organization would comprise ex-servicemen, who would act as a bridge between tourists, district administration and local police and address their security problems.”
Tamil Nadu, a home to various pilgrimage sites currently tops the list in attracting huge number of foreign tourists and stands third in attracting domestic visitors.
