Delhi’s 2 busiest stations - Rajiv Chowk and Chandni Chowk will be getting escalators from the Delhi metro ahead of Commonwealth Games (CWG). The decision came soon after Delhi Metro Managing Director E Sreedharan inspected the 2 stations.
A separate entry and exit gates will be set up at the Chandni Chowk Metro Station to ease the flow of passengers into the station. This station also acts as an integrating point for the Old Delhi Railway Station of Indian Railways. Sreedharan has also directed railway officials to set up 14 additional ticket counters to be put near gate No 1 where passengers will be coming for entry.
Furthermore, a high capacity lift will be put on Hauz Qazi side of the Chandni Chowk Metro Station station for the convenience of the passengers. The new arrangements are expected to be ready before Commonwealth Games kick starts in the month of October. While Rajiv Chowk Metro Station is situated in the heart of Delhi, Connaught place, the Chandni Chowk station is on the Vishwa Vidyalaya - Central Secretariat Line of the Delhi Metro. It serves the Chandni Chowk market area, and is near the Red Fort.
