Pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu & Kashmir can now use the third tunnel to reach the holy place. The tunnel thrown open to all the visitors from April 20th is airy, well lit and has a very convenient headway.
With the opening of a third tunnel, waiting time for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine has been reduced .The tunnel is connected to the sanctum sanctorum of the cave shrine at a height of 5,200 feet above sea level. Vaishno Devi shrine, one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites of India attracts 25,000-30,000 pilgrims each day. Last year, the shrine got 8 million pilgrims.
“We are expecting the number of pilgrims to touch 10 million in the next couple of years,” Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Minister Rigzin Jora. The construction of the tunnel started 2 years ago was completed in March, this year
