Dubai finally unveiled its second airport, Al-Maktoum International Airport, on 27th June. The new airport claimed to be the world’s largest airport has been initially opened to cargo carriers, with passenger operations scheduled to start up by the end of March 2011.
The Phase 1 of the airport features 1 A380-capable runway, 64 remote stands, a cargo terminal and a passenger terminal building designed to accommodate 5 million passengers per year. Once the airport is completed, it will have 5 runways, 4 terminal buildings with the capacity to accommodate 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum.
