According to the traffic figures revealed by Hong Kong’s main airport, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), a total record of 4.7 million passengers passed through airport in the month of July. The number of aircraft movements also hit a record high of 26,720 during July, according to statistics released by the Hong Kong Airport Authority. Cargo tonnage also jumped 24.5 per cent year-on-year to 363,000 during the period.
Stanley Hui Hon-chung, Chief Executive Officer, Airport Authority Hong Kong said, “The market rebound during summer holiday travel season has been particularly strong. July 2010 saw a high average load factor of close to 80 per cent for passenger flights at HKIA. To meet increased demand, both foreign and base carriers have been active in adding more flights, launching new destinations, or restoring flights that had been suspended during the financial crisis. All these increased aviation activities will further strengthen the airport’s position as an international and regional aviation centre.”
HKIA that currently operates one of the world's largest passenger terminal buildings has a total of 70 boarding gates and 7 virtual gates which are used as assembly points for passengers. The airport is equipped with facilities like free wireless internet, 150 food and drink outlets, multi-storey car park, customer service centres among others.
