According to the joint survey conducted by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Yes Bank, Indian tourism industry is all set to boom and become the second largest employer in the world as it will be employing more than 40,037,000 people by 2019.
Agri tourism that comprises agri museums, agriculture related festivals and fairs, heritage trails, farm tours and others have been witnessing increasing number of tourists in the recent years. The country is set for an 8.8 per cent growth in the sector between 2011 and 2019. As such $94.5 billion will be pumped into the tourism industry for further developments and to improve services meted out to visitors.
Tourism will not only transform urban India but also the rural part of the country and eventually promote agri tourism by involving thousands of farmers into it. It would act as an instrument for economic development and employment generation in backward areas, said the report.
Tourism sector being the largest service industry in India contributes about 6.23 per cent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 8.78 per cent of the total employment. India receives more than 5 million annual Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) and 562 million domestic tourism visits.
