Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) that actively promotes its state as a hot tourism destination is now looking forward to upgrade and expand well-known places and MTDC resorts at Mahabaleshwar, Panhala, Karla and Dajipur.
An MTDC official said, “The Union government's tourism ministry has sanctioned over Rs 7 crore for the overall development of tourist places around Kolhapur. Developmental works have been undertaken at Panhala Fort, Bhavani Mandap besides upgradation of a historical temple at Khidrapur."
While, Karla and Panhala resorts will witness additional outdoor activities under the plan, the upgradation work at Bhavani Mandap is in the final stage while remaining work is expected to be completed by November-end this year. Furthermore, Rs 2 crore has been allotted for upgrading rooms and resort campus in Mahabaleshwar.
Also, the MTDC resort at Dajipur Sanctuary, which has a capacity of 10 rooms and is currently not operational, will be refurbished. MTDC's Pune division currently has resorts and activities at Karla, Mahabaleshwar, Panhala, Koyna, Amboli and Dajipur. MTDC that is fully owned by the government of Maharashtra maintains resorts at all key tourist centres and arranges sightseeing tours to places like Ajanta, Ellora , Elephant caves among others.
