Gujarat has chalked out plans to invest Rs 48,000 crore in the state tourism sector by 2020 and in order to achieve the tourism potential, the state government has formed Gujarat Tourism Project Development Company Limited (GTPDCL) in collaboration with IL&FS, one of India's leading infrastructure development and finance companies. GTPDCL will undertake development for about 50 projects that require investments between Rs 10 crore and 200 crore.
The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board, a body founded in 1995 to facilitate higher fund flows into the state, has chalked out an ambitious plan to attract investments to the tune of Rs 48, 000 crore in the tourism sector. Gujarat Tourism managing director and commissioner Anoop Shukla who was present at a recently held road show in Jaipur said that out of the total budget,about Rs18,000 cr was expected over the next 2-3 years .
Gujarat which is celebrating 2010 as tourism year will soon host a tourism conference in the first week of December. In addition, the state forest department to woo more number of tourists is planning to develop whale shark tourism which was implemented by the Australian system of locating them by using plane and expert spotters in the sea.
