To help people easily locate the areas, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has undertaken the initiative to install elegant directional signboards across the twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The main thoroughfares of Greater Hyderabad will soon sport new signboards, which are bound to give the heritage-rich city an international look.
GHMC mayor, Banda Karthika Reddy said the State Bank of Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has come forward to sponsor the project. To begin with, the GHMC would install 700 signs at about 200 junctions in Greater Hyderabad. The twin panel boards would indicate directions and distances to various landmarks and locations on one panel and feature a monument or other attraction on the other.
The 3.5x2 feet boards made of weather resistant material, can be read easily even at night, from a distance. Existing signboards which have become old and damaged will also be replaced. To woo more number of visitors to the state the Hyderabad tourism department and the GHMC are working on a number of measures to make the state tourist-friendly city and the signboards project was one among them.
