BalasoreBalasore is one of the major tourist destinations of Orissa. It is situated 212 km to the northeast of Bhubaneswar, near the southeastern coast of India. The city boasts of immense scenic beauty and a plethora of historical monuments and temples. Balasore is the main town of the Balasore district. It served as the residential place of the famous Fakir Mohan Senapati, who is considered to be the savior of modern Oriya language. The city is important from tourism point of view and also has a strong industrial base.

Renowned factories like Birla Tyres, Oriplast, Balasore Alloys and Emami Paper Mills are located here. Rubber, Plastic, Paper and Alloys industries are also mushrooming around the Balasore. Apart from this, the city has a strong affinity towards education and art forms. It boasts of a number of schools, colleges and Universities, where knowledge is imparted to the students native to Orissa as well as those coming from the rest of the country. Besides this, Balasore has a strong involvement in the field of art and literature.

There are many theatre and cultural groups in the region, which have contributed significantly to its cultural heritage. The best season to visit the town is between December and February as the climate is very pleasant. During the rest of the year the weather is usually hot and humid. During the rainy season, the southwest monsoon brings plenty of rainfall. The city experiences heavy downpour in monsoon, especially the months of July and August. Owing to its coastal location, it is quite prone to cyclones as well.
