Tipping Guidelines in Punjab
  • Tips are generally given to the waiters at hotels or restaurants, after having food. Usually, it is 10% of the bill which is given as the tip. In case of small restaurants, a tip in the range of Rs.10 to Rs. 30 is fair enough.
  • If you are staying in a hotel, you can pay a small amount to the room service boy and the gate-keeper, when you leave the hotel.
  • Guide is the person who makes or mars your trip. So, if you are really satisfied with his service, tip him an amount as a token of thanks. You can decide the amount to be given as per your evaluation of his services.
  • You need not tip the auto-driver and taxi driver for short journeys. The charge you pay already includes the tip. However, for any long tours, you can give the tip in the range of Rs.50-100 to the driver
  • Generally, people do not give any tips to the porters. But, if you feel the service to be genuinely good, you can provide a small tip to them as well.
  • If you are staying at your friend's or relatives’ house, you can give a small amount to the household servant. However, in this case, you need to consult your host before deciding upon it.
  • Wear a smile on your face while giving tips. It shows your pleasure and satisfaction and wipes away the impression of compulsion.
